Since 2012, Tida has been featured as a blog contributor for the Huffington Post Arts and Culture section of the New York chapter. Her posts feature writings about artists and practitioners who are challenging interdisciplinary arts collaborations and the urban environment in New York and abroad.

The Architecture of Pasta: Making Pasta with Mitch Orr.

Mitch Orr, lauded as one of Australia’s brightest young chefs- Orr’s recent creation takes the form of a six-course pasta degustation at Buzo Trattoria, located in Woollahra, Sydney.
A process of manipulating tradition and terroir, Orr’s culinary expression draws inspiration from his professional training in Italian cuisine without being restricted by it. Orr presents a progressive futurist vision for the food scene in Sydney.

Poetic Resistance: Interview with artist Baden Pailthorpe

In Pailthorpe’s forthcoming exhibition Formations at Sydney’s Martin Browne Contemporary, Pailthorpe exhibits his on-going series of video works that incorporate military simulators, film, and video games.Formations is pitched against a highly coded Afghanistan, the high definition images recreated for military training purposes are appropriated for Pailthorpe’s work — creating a new site to contextualize the relationship between art and technology.

New York Close Up: Markii

Situated within the ever changing cultural landscape of the New York art community, Art21′s web seriesNew York Close Up will add an additional eight artists to its current roll call of emerging artists working and operating in New York City.

This year’s short online videos will feature artists practicing a wide gamut of art forms from painting, performance and public art works.

Launching June 1 with artist Mika Rottenberg, the additional eight featured artists depict a different viewpoint of being an artist living and working in New York city today. Offering an intimate and revealing portraiture of the young artists, Art21′s Webby nominated series focuses on exposing the artists outside of the gallery context. The new series will feature Diana Al-Hadid, Alejandro Almanza Pereda, David Brooks, Josephine Halvorson, Liz Magic Laser, Eddie Martinez, Mika Rottenberg and Erin Shirreff.

Creating the post Hipster city: Conversation with urbanist Aurash Khawarzad

Intervening in public space with refurbished shipping pallet chairs, interactive community-curated billboards, and with the forthcoming exhibition for U.S. Pavilion at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale — the works are visually provocative inasmuch as they voice groundswell in changing practices and interdisciplinary collaborations in art, urbanism and civic participation. Committed to exploring the multiple intersections between art and urbanism, Aurash speaks about creating the post-Hipster city, gentrification, and what it means to (re)build New York City from the ground up.

The Calligrapher: Sina Goudarzi

What are the challenges of practicing a traditional art form in the digital age?

Sina Goudarzi is a Calligrapher from Iran; his work has spanned over 30 years working with Master Persian Calligraphers.
Sina’s work transmits the traditional art form of Persian calligraphy to a contemporary context at his studio in Gowanus.
In this episode, we explore the art form of Persian calligraphy and the unique craftsmanship associated with the discipline. In the 10-minute short piece filmed in Sina’s studio, we learn of how Sina came to understand the principles of Persian Calligraphy through Russian Constructivism and keen interest in typography. Sina’s training with Master Calligraphers has informed his practice and passion for continuing the heritage and fine art of Persian Calligraphy.

(Curator and Artist)

The exhibition Latitude/Longitude opened on 9/12 at Assemblage in Sydney.

The project was a combination of stills, on-line content and written material based on research and experiences from living in the West Bank. The material is a collection of thoughts and ideas of a possibility, it is furthermore an exploration of time and space within a landscape that is on one hand at a state of flux and at a state of stagnation.

The project combined the physical exhibition and the digital platform to further distribute the piece beyond the traditional concept of the exhibition space.

The ‘Latitude/Longitude’ exhibition catalogue featuring essays about public art was published by Assemblage (AUS) and distributed by James Bennett Books (US).

(Co-producer and steering committee)

- Awarded 2011 ARI Grant by Australia Council for the Arts.

- Featured in TimeOut Sydney: July 2011

Assemblage is an interdisciplinary arts organisation committed to creating and exposing innovative platforms between artists of all disciplines. Our conviction lies in the thought that art is the meeting point where diverse discussions and narratives that come together to create. Assemblage strives to create and consolidate these lines of communication within an Australian and globally interconnected community of artists and practitioners.

Assemblage offers a carte blanche for audiences and visual arts practitioners to experience inter-disciplinary creative processes and explore the aesthetic outcomes. Assemblage’s core policy centres upon providing artists the collaborative environment and space to engage in inter-disciplinary discussions, this policy is administered through Assemblage’s exhibition space, forums, workshops, residency/mentorship program and publications. The workshops and studio space focus on providing visual artists the digital tools in which to achieve and experiment with a diversity of practices that will transform traditional approaches and perceptions of the visual arts. With the notion of transition and trans-disciplinary interactions as the foundations of Assemblage, artists will come into contact with a variety of practices and networks that will further shape and challenge traditional art practices.

The current board members and steering committee reflect the diversity of disciplines that is crucial to Assemblage’s trans-disciplinary discussions for the emergence of new practices and learning processes. Drawing on discourses from architecture, design, new media, photography and sculpture, Assemblage sets out to develop a shifting network of people and ideas that will further shape art practices of the future.

The emphasis is on the transformations of ideas and techniques through an exposure to inter-disciplinary interactions whereby innovative practices and networks will emerge, this is achieved by providing artists (emerging and mid- career), and practitioners the skills and opportunities in which to execute such ideas.

With kind support from:
